Cable operator Virgin Media has today unleashed its “broadband sheriffs” to help broadband consumers identify which seemingly innocent household items can cause the most interference for your home wifi network; these could result in a serious loss of performance. Oh and they’re also touting that new SuperHub V2 router again.

Satellite ISP Tooway Direct UK, which is part of the UK based Satellite Solutions Worldwide group, appears to have re-branded once again to become EuropaSat. But unlike before the “new” ISP has ended its exclusive arrangement with Eutelsat (KA-SAT) and now also sells broadband options supplied by SES (ASTRA) and Avanti (HYLAS).

A new report from Point Topic has claimed that the cost of making superfast broadband (30Mbps+) available to 100% of the UK and Europe could be just £69 billion (EUR 82bn), which is considerably less than the original estimate of up to £228 bn (EUR 270bn). The catch is it would be hybrid-fibre (FTTC/N) and not true fibre optic (FTTH/P).

A new study from RootMetrics has named EE as the fastest mobile broadband operator in Manchester (England) after it blitzed past rivals, including distant runner-up Three UK, to record an average download speed of 15.2Mbps (Megabits per second) and uploads of 9.4Mbps.

Internet providers BT, Sky Broadband and Virgin Media have confirmed that their broadband customers will shortly find themselves unable to access the Download4All and Movie2k websites after a court order issued in late April 2013 forced both to be censored over copyright infringement (piracy).
