BT Consumer has today announced that their online file storage and backup service (BTCloud), which is free for all of their existing broadband customers (the entry-level packages include 5GB of storage and the top superfast BTInfinity service comes with 50GB), can now be upgraded with even more space (up to 500GB) for a small fee.

BTOpenreach are preparing to increase the cost of their premium wholesale line rental product, which ISPs often sell on to businesses as part of a phone or broadband bundle, from £110 +vat per year to £114 (+3.64%). It follows a similar rise in the cost of Basic Line Rental on 17th May 2014, which went from £93.32 to £96.17 (+3.05%).

Barden Network Engineering, which is a subcontractor for Carillion (BT’s contractor for the UK superfast broadband FTTC/P roll-out) that specialises in cable installation jointing and splicing, has announced plans to create 25 new jobs in Merthyr Tydfil after it began setting up a new depot on the Cyfarthfa Industrial Estate in Merthyr Tydfil (Wales).

Broadband ISP PlusNet has posted a couple of interesting snapshots of Internet video streaming traffic during England’s dismal opening matches of the 2014 Football WorldCup in Brazil. Suffice to say, ITV Player traffic is hardly a blip next to the huge popularity of BBC’s iPlayer service.

The National Farmers Union (NFU), satellite broadband ISP Avonline and farming retailer Massey Ferguson have teamed up to modify two tractors, which will be positioned at key locations along Yorkshire’s (England) Tour de France route, to act as free wifi wireless Internet hotspots with a considerably wider than usual area of coverage.

The Comms Business magazine has announced the winners of their annual 2014 Comms Business Awards event, which took place last week in London and saw Daisy Wholesale beat competition from ICUK, Zen Internet, Gamma and Virtua1 to secure the Best Internet Service Provider award.
