Ofcom has today proposed to grant Code Powers to ISP WarwickNet Ltd., which would make it simpler for them (e.g. easier approval for street works) to roll-out their “superfast” and “ultrafast” broadband network by, among other things, making use of BTOpenreach’s cable duct and pole sharing (DPS) products.

Some operators seem to have a knack for finding new ways of annoying their customers. As a case in point, EE has decided that broadband and mobile customers who call their support line will be offered the ability to jump in front of the queue for an additional one-off fee of 50 pence.

The second phase of BTOpenreach’s VDSL Vectoring (ITU-T G.993.5) trial, which could improve the performance of BT’s existing “up to” 80Mbps capable hybrid-fibre (FTTC) superfast broadband lines by significantly reducing interference (crosstalk), has finally got underway and will run for “at least” 3 months.
