Existing customers of cable operator Virgin Media (Liberty Global) have begun to receive letters that warn of another price rise, which will take affect from 1st October 2014 and see subscribers paying an additional £1.50 per month for their broadband service.

BT has confirmed that new and existing TV (IPTV) customers will be able to watch the new Sky Sports 5 channel, which is dedicated to European Football, on their BT Vision+ set-top-box when it’s launched by Sky today (channel 524). But standard broadband (non – BTInfinity) subscribers will have to wait a few weeks longer.

JT Global (Jersey Telecom) reports that some 10,000 customers have now subscribed to their 1000Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband ISP network on Jersey (Channel Islands), which is up from 8,479 in June and 7,600 in March 2014.

A new Royal Mail commissioned study of 1,412 adults in Britain with access to “superfast broadband“, and 1,710 adults with no superfast service, has discovered that having faster connectivity boosts online sales and this equates to an increase in spending of 3.1% (around £23 a year) per superfast broadband user.

South Yorkshire ISP Origin Broadband appears to be taking some flak from disgruntled customers over their handling of the imminent Digital Region (DRL) network closure and a 30 day notification email, which was first sent to subscribers in the middle of July 2014.
