The Government has today launched a new Digital Communications Infrastructure Strategy consultation document, which forms part of their effort to develop a long term strategy for helping to ensure that the United Kingdom has the “best connectivity” by 2025-2030 (phone, broadband, mobile etc.).

Transport for London (Tfl) has announced that they’ve launched a new trial of free wireless Internet (wifi) connectivity on two of their buses in the city of London, which is being tested alongside the addition of an upper deck seat indicator and enhanced passenger information screens.

Mobile network operator Vodafone looks set to take on EE after they successfully tested Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology at a laboratory in Newbury (Berkshire, England), which aims to make “crystal clear [voice] calls” possible over their new “ultrafast” 4G network.

National UK telecoms operator BT has promised to refund their broadband ISP customers after it emerged that some had accidentally been charged for use of the operators FON based WiFi hotspots between 12th June and 10th July 2014, which are supposed to be free for existing subscribers.

National UK cable provider Virgin Media (Liberty Global) has suffered a traditionally dismal second quarter (Q2-2014 Calendar) after seeing their total broadband subscriber growth decline by -12,000 to total 4,524,200 customers, which is a reverse from the +25,700 added in Q1. But the good news is that their network will soon reach another 100,000 homes, albeit only in East London.
