ITS Technology, which very recently gobbled wireless broadband ISP CityServe Ltd. in East Manchester (here), has completed its overhaul of the aforementioned network and today announced the launch of their “faster [and] more reliable” 36Mbps (Megabits per second) capable business and home broadband service in the same area.

More than 375 businesses in Leeds and Bradford have taken up the Government’s Broadband Connection Vouchers scheme, which offers grants worth up to £3,000 to help SME firms install a superfast broadband (30Mbps+) service in any of 22 cities across the United Kingdom. As a result they’re no.1 in the top 10 cities (outside London) claiming vouchers.

Hands up if your broadband ISP makes the upload (upstream) speed of your Internet package clear on their advertising? We thought not. Sadly only a few of the major ISPs even bother to advertise upload performance and those that do only tend to show it on certain products. But how fast you can push information into the online world does matter and its importance is growing.

The University College London (UCL) has today teamed up with The Cloud (BSkyB) to launch a free public WiFi wireless Internet service at several of its campus sites across the capital city. But there is a caveat concerning how “free” it is.
