Broadband ISP and TV provider Virgin Media UK (Liberty Global) have today confirmed that they’ve just completed another network extension, which has seen 3,300 premises in the Derbyshire town of Shirebrook gain access to their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today made it possible for future home WiFi networks to harness 500MHz of radio spectrum frequency in the new 6GHz band, which will significantly boost the speed of licence-exempt indoor home wireless networks (i.e. via the Wi-Fi 6/6E – 802.11ax standard).

Mobile and broadband ISP Vodafone UK have published their latest results to the end of June 2020 (financial Q1 FY21), which saw their fixed broadband base grow to total 793,000 customers (up by +42K in the quarter vs +64K in the previous quarter), while their mobile based declined to 17,580,000 (down by -462K).

Mobile operator Vodafone UK has announced that their latest expansion of 4G based mobile (mobile broadband) coverage under the new £1bn Shared Rural Network (SRN) industry project has just gone live in the rural Peak District (Staffordshire) village of Longnor, which is home to over 330 people.

A new YouGov poll of 1,000 UK adults in London, which was conducted between 2-6th July 2020 and commissioned by full fibre broadband ISP G.Network (vested interest), has claimed that 59% of London residents would want to keep working from home at least some days of the week if only their broadband was better.

UK ISP Exascale, which last year started to build a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to cover premises around parts of Telford in Shropshire (here), has split their business into two – one side will focus on bringing gigabit “full fibre” to homes and the other will focus on biz and wholesale connectivity.
