Alternative UK wireless and full fibre ISP Airband, which currently aims to deploy their ultrafast Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to cover over 500,000 premises by the end of 2025 (here), has revealed that their recent contract wins look set to help them create 1,000 new job opportunities.

Wireless and full fibre broadband ISP Dyfed Superfast (Dyfed IT), which primarily serves a few remote rural parts of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire in Wales, has become the latest alternative internet provider to be acquired by UK ISP Voneus for an undisclosed sum.

The £1bn Shared Rural Network (SRN) industry project made progress today after mobile operators O2, Three UK and Vodafone reached a related agreement to both build and share 222 new 4G mobile masts, which will be used to boost mobile voice and mobile broadband coverage in rural parts of the country.

A new survey of 20,376 UK people, specifically those who are responsible for either a broadband or mobile service, has found that 33% of customers whose ISP deal ended in the last year (7% on mobile) have never received an End-of-Contract Notification – via letter, text or email – and may thus be overpaying for their package.

Broadband and telecoms giant BT Group has announced that they will aim to hire a further 428 UK apprentices (229) and graduates (199) this year – part of their September 2021 intake plan. But the figure is down from the 700+ promised via last year’s September 2020 intake plan and comes at a time of job losses elsewhere.

A little known ISP called Haven Wireless, which helped to connect rural homes in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire (Wales) by harnessing a mobile broadband connection from EE (BT) and other operators, is set to close on 31st March 2021 after running into “acute capacity issues on the frequencies used by the 4G masts covering our area.”

Mobile network operator Three UK has today announced that they intend to combine both their two Thames Valley offices into a single central one for the first time, which is to be based in Reading. The new 117,000 square foot building is currently still under construction at the Green Park business centre.

A new Assembly Research study of several countries, which was commissioned by Liberty Global (Virgin Media) and Telefonica (O2), has found that 60% of broadband customers benefit from faster speeds, higher quality connectivity and a greater range of products in markets where fixed and mobile networks have converged.

Broadband ISP Zen Internet has confirmed that their new 900Mbps Full Fibre Plus package (£40 per month), which is based off Cityfibre’s UK Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, has now also become available to homes and businesses in the city of Newcastle, at least it is to those covered by the new network.

Britain’s biggest house-builder, Barratt Developments, has today announced that they’re working with network providers Openreach (BT), Virgin Media and Hyperoptic to ensure that “gigabit-capable” FTTP broadband ISP infrastructure is “installed as standard” across all of their new UK build developments.

Cityfibre (CF) have today announced that they will begin expanding the coverage of their existing Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based gigabit broadband ISP network in the North Yorkshire city of York, which will aim to reach “nearly every home and business.” The network was previously owned by TalkTalk via FibreNation.

The UK telecoms regulator has today confirmed that the new COVID-19 lockdown will delay the start of their auction for the 700MHz and 3.6-3.8GHz radio spectrum bands, which was previously due to start this month. The new bands should help to improve the coverage and speed of 5G mobile (mobile broadband) networks.

The mobile division of cable broadband, TV and phone provider Virgin Media – Virgin Mobile – appears to have started the live launch of their new ultrafast 5G based data services, albeit initially only using their new Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) platform from Vodafone rather than O2.

The Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC) in Wales has today announced that the first of many gigabit-capable broadband cabinets have just been install in several rural communities, which stem from four new pilot schemes with Broadway Partners (UK ISP Broadway Broadband).
