Telecoms and UK broadband giant BT Group has joined forces with Iceotope to conduct an “industry first” trial of “precision liquid cooled” network switches, which will be applied to their Juniper Network QFX Series switches. In theory, this could substantially improve their energy consumption and efficiency metrics.

Complaints about the erection of new telegraph poles are nothing new in the UK. But one growing campaign – involving residents of Hedon and South Preston – appears to be taking their dispute with full fibre network builder MS3 to a new level, by organising a 10-year boycott of broadband ISPs that sell their services.

London-focused network builder and broadband ISP CommunityFibre, which is deploying a 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across the city (currently covering 1.2m premises), has boosted the speed of their cheap £12.50 per month social tariff for a second time – from 20Mbps to 35Mbps (symmetric).

The Independent Networks Co-operative Association (INCA), which represents UK alternative networks, will today publish a new report that accuses broadband ISP BT of charging customers up to 29% more per month for the same broadband product in areas without infrastructure competition.

Openreach (BT) has today named the next batch of 19 new locations to benefit from their ongoing roll-out of a new multi-Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network, which together will cover around 200,000 extra premises. The new exchanges are all within their existing build areas (i.e. infill and further expansion).

Broadband ISP and mobile network operator Vodafone are to shift some of their Customer Care teams from the UK to South Africa and Egypt. The outsourcing move, which is planned to take place in November 2023, may help to lower the operator’s costs but will also put hundreds of jobs at risk.
