Concerns are starting to be expressed by customers of broadband ISP iTalk (iTalk Affiliate Telecommunications), which have been complaining about a a protracted service outage that started last week. In addition, some customers have alleged that support staff suggested the issue could be resolved more quickly if they took out a new contract.

The aptly named Broadband Speed Test website, which is owned by Dot Com Ventures, appears to have launched a new web and app based internet connection performance testing tool to compete with the many similar services that already exist in the UK and across the world.

Mobile network operator Lyca Mobile, which in the UK is a virtual operator (MVNO) on EE’s network, has today committed to a price freeze on its Pay Monthly plans for the rest of 2026, which is said to be following in the footsteps of Tesco Mobile and Spusu by bucking the wider trend of traditional mobile contracts which feature mid-contract price rises.

Global internet and network connection benchmarking firm Ookla, which operates the popular Speedtest.net broadband connection testing and Downdetector websites and apps (among other things), has been acquired from Ziff Davis by Accenture in a deal that is said to have a cash value of $1.2 ‌billion (c.£900m).

The government has today committed a further £30m of public investment from the UK Space Agency’s 4-year £160m Connectivity in Low Earth Orbit (C-LEO) programme, which will be used to develop new satellite technologies and components to help supply “high-speed internet, communications and data services” around the world.

Network operator Openreach (BT) has significantly extended their special offer for broadband ISPs, which discounts the charge on 10Gbps Cablelinks for their FTTP and FTTC lines (GEA), nationwide, to just £399 +vat when taken on Layer 2 Switches (L2S) older than 6 months.

The regulators for the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey have reached an agreement that should resolve a tricky problem, which meant customers of JT’s mobile service couldn’t keep their existing mobile number when switching to virtual operator Coop Mobile (here). But JT has now agreed to support number ports by 17th March 2026, more than six weeks earlier than first planned.

The UK Government and the Global Coalition on Telecoms (GCOT), which also includes Australia, Canada, Japan, Sweden, Finland and the USA, have today published a joint statement that appears to set out their expectations for how the next generation of 6G mobile (mobile broadband) technology should adopt stricter standards to improve network security and resilience.

Broadband and mobile giant Virgin Media and O2 (VMO2) has announced that they will credit back the cost of calls, SMS messages and data (mobile broadband) to and from the UK to several countries in the Middle East, which will be backdated to 28th February and run until 7th March 2026 (although this may be extended).

Mobile operator VodafoneThree (Vodafone and Three UK) has issued an update on their Joint Venture (SatCo) with satellite operator AST SpaceMobile, which reveals that they’ll kick off their first customer trials of a space-based 4G and 5G mobile (mobile broadband) service – that can connect with regular Smartphones – this Summer 2026.

National broadband and network access provider Openreach (BT), which has already put 6,000 Electric Vehicles (EV) on UK roads to support their broadband and phone engineers, have today signed an agreement with Smart Charge, Sainsbury’s nationwide EV charging network, to provide its engineers with access to their “ultra-rapid charging hubs” in 80 locations across the country.

A new report claims that the debt strained TalkTalk Group, which has allegedly already begun talks with several prospective bidders for their various divisions (here), is set to receive an injection of £115 million from Ares Management – reflecting £65m in new senior debt and a short-term facility of £50m – to boost its finances ahead of any deal.

The London Access Point (LONAP), which is a not-for-profit Layer 2 Internet Exchange Point (IXP) based in London that was first established in 1997 and works with various different members (broadband ISPs, CDNs, mobile operators etc.), has just announced its new fees for 2026 and once again moved to reduce their port fees.

Mobile operator EE (BT) has worked with mobile network partner Ericsson to introduce two new capabilities to their core 5G Standalone (5G SA / 5G+) mobile broadband network – Network Slice Selection Function (NSSF) and Network Exposure Function (NEF), which enables programmable connectivity, letting businesses and their developers request network performance on demand.

Mobile operator O2 (Virgin Media) has this morning confirmed that they’ll pump another £700m into their Mobile Transformation Plan for 2026 (the same amount as last year), which much like in 2025 will be focused on “improving reliability, boosting capacity and extending coverage across the country“.

Mobile operator Vodafone has announced that they aren’t only working with AST SpaceMobile to improve mobile connectivity and have today also signed an agreement to harness Amazon Leo‘s (formerly Project Kuiper) satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), albeit only for mobile backhaul (i.e. linking 4G and 5G masts in Europe [inc. UK] and Africa to their core network).
