The CEO of Liberty Global (Mike Fries), which co-owns broadband operator Virgin Media (O2) and nexfibre in the UK, appears to have suggested that they could stop rolling out new full fibre (FTTP) broadband networks if the competition regulator does not approve their planned merger with rival Netomnia (Substantial Group).

Customers of consumer broadband provider TalkTalk are this morning reporting a major service outage, which appears to have begun at around 7am and is currently impacting users across various different parts of the United Kingdom. Streaming platform provider Roku UK, which last year began to deploy their “first-ever” FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) channels to streaming boxes at no extra cost (here), has today announced that they’ve added another five FAST TV channels to their existing total of 40. The new additions all come from ITV Studios.
Network operator Openreach (BT) has moved to expand its existing partnership with Google Cloud, which involves adopting their AI (Artificial Intelligence) services to help plan the logistics and engineering for their ongoing deployment of Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based gigabit broadband ISP technology.
