The Amazon Leo (Project Kuiper) service, which is building a huge constellation of ultrafast internet satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) for the UK and globally, has published the results of a new study – commissioned by itself – from Oxford Economics that forecasts how LEO broadband services could boost UK economic output by £2bn and support more than 24,000 jobs by 2035.

Broadband and mobile operator Virgin Media and O2 (VMO2) has today set out a new “Responsible Business Plan” to 2030, which updates their approach to improving sustainability and social impact. In short, more support and new targets for tackling digital exclusion, reducing carbon emissions and greater recycling etc.

Shropshire-based independent UK ISP Aquiss has this morning expanded the range of Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) packages they offer via the Freedom Truespeed (Freedom Fibre and Truespeed) network, which now includes an entry-level 140Mbps package and a top 2.3Gbps (2,300Mbps) tier.

Broadband and mobile operator Vodafone (VodafoneThree) has just published their latest Q4 FY26 financial results. The figures show that they now have 1.832 million fixed broadband customers (up by 64,000 in Q4 – the same figure as Q3) and a combined mobile base of 28.356 million (down by 263,000).

A number of sources have recently indicated to ISPreview that two Infracapital-backed alternative UK broadband networks, Fibrus and Ogi, have allegedly been engaged in talks over a possible future consolidation. The move, if indeed it does materialise, would create a single full fibre (FTTP) network covering around 600,000 premises and reaching over 160,000 customers.

The Starlink (SpaceX) service, which offers ultrafast broadband in the UK and around the world via a global network of compact satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), has introduced a “Travel Registration” policy that requires customers to show their Passport details if you use or may potentially use the service outside your registered home country. Failure to do so could get you suspended.

Alternative network ISP Fibrus has issued a progress update on their £34.6m (public subsidy) UK Project Gigabit broadband roll-out contract in Northern Ireland, which began at the end of 2025 (here) and aims to cover 9,333 of the hardest to reach rural premises. The provider has just passed its first milestone by covering 1,593 of the contracted premises.

Retail internet service provider Cuckoo, which is the consumer broadband outlet for the associated AllPoints Fibre (APFN / Fern Trading) network and wholesale platform (they also provide services via several third-party full fibre networks, such as Openreach and CityFibre), has confirmed to ISPreview that rival ISP Onestream will acquire their customer base.

Carlisle-based alternative broadband ISP Grain (Grain Connect), which has already built their point-to-point full fibre (FTTP) network to cover 270,000 UK premises (aiming for 600,000 in the future) and in 2025 secured a £225m funding boost (here), has now been spotted deploying their network in the Lincolnshire (England) town of Scunthorpe.

Ofcom has today published their latest quarterly (Q4 2025) study of UK consumer telecoms and TV complaints, which finds that Vodafone attracted the most complaints from customers for fixed broadband services, while O2 came top of the naughty table for Mobile services and EE did the same for Pay TV.

Mobile operator Vodafone (VodafoneThree) has this morning announced a “major expansion of its home broadband offering” by launching Vodafone 5G Broadband and claiming to open up “full‑fibre like speeds” to a further 3.7 million homes across the UK. The focus seems to be on those homes still stuck on “slow, unreliable speeds offered by part-fibre or copper” connections.

The UK Government has this morning confirmed that their recent modification to Openreach’s (BT) Call Off 5 contract for Essex and North East England (here) will be the “first Project Gigabit contract to target pockets of poor connectivity in towns and cities“, as well as the countryside. Over 9,500 extra premises in Essex “burdened with older broadband” will benefit from the £8.3m expansion (public subsidy).

Openreach (BT) has today published a huge batch of 238 exchanges (Tranche 24) – covering 1.69 million premises – under their “FTTP Priority Exchange” stop sell programme, which reflects areas where over 75% of premises are able to get full fibre lines and will thus stop selling copper based legacy phone and broadband products (i.e. FTTP becomes the only product option, where it’s available).

The UK government has posted contract modifications for three of Openreach’s Project Gigabit contracts – Call Off 1 (Lancashire, West Berkshire, Staffordshire, Surrey, Hertfordshire, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire), Call Off 5 (Essex and North East England) and Call Off 3 (North Herefordshire, North Wales, Shropshire and South West Wales). The move expands their planned deployments of full fibre broadband ISP networks into rural areas.

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has today moved to help facilitate the closure of the old analogue phone network (PSTN/WLR) in favour of digital (IP-based) alternatives, which they’ve done by making it free for broadband and phone providers to migrate WLR Solus (i.e. voice-only lines) to MPF (fully unbundled) or SOTAP (data-only copper broadband for areas without fibre) lines.

London-based broadband provider Pulse Fibre, which focuses on deploying Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) internet connections into new build UK home developments and MDUs (here), has become the latest altnet to hit troubled times after they issued a “Notice of Intention to appoint an administrator“.

A new study from Broadband Genie has analysed 144,509 broadband speed tests over a 12-month period to find the best and worst locations and ISPs in the UK where your internet download speed drops at peak times. Overall the report finds that Wigan experienced the biggest drop at peak times (average fall of -55%), while Airband saw the biggest fall for ISPs (-45%).
