Mobile network operator Three UK has partnered with Apple to create a new bundle, which combines their 4G and 5G based unlimited use Home Broadband service with an Apple 4K TV device that also includes one year of free Apple TV+ access (usually £4.99 per month).

A new Opinium survey of 2,002 UK adults, which was commissioned by ISP Zen Internet, has claimed that 2 million of the 10 million UK households that have a broadband and TV bundle are considering unbundling themselves from the package “due to a lack of value” and 1.7 million have already done so.

Customers of TV and broadband ISP Virgin Media UK (Liberty Global) are being invited to sign-up for the operator’s future launch of a new “next generation TV” service, which looks set to be called Virgin TV 360 and will also be accompanied by a new piece of set-top-box hardware or two.

Broadband ISP TalkTalk saw its internet traffic reach a new peak of 6.833Tbps (Terabits per second) at 21:25 last night, which is up from 6.488Tbps in June 2020 (here). The latest surge in data demand was driven by customers attempting to view the Champions League (football) final.

Customers on some of BT’s broadband and TV packages (both business and residential) have recently found that the bundled BTSport TV App has stopped working on Microsoft Surface (Go and Pro) tablets, which is despite the fact that they’re advertised as being supported. Part of this is because the UK ISP now considers them to be laptops.

Mobile operator EE (BT) has launched a new “BT Sport in a Box” package for their Pay Monthly customers, which costs £45 and includes 3 months’ access to the BTSport TV app with inclusive data, 3 months large screen access and an inclusive Google Chromecast (worth c.£75) “so that they can watch every game on their TV at home.”

Customers of Vodafone’s 4G and 5G based mobile (mobile broadband) services may like to know that the operator has just added content from Amazon Prime and YouTube Premium to their service, which means that Pay Monthly customers can optionally add them to their “Entertainment” plans as part of a single bill.

Sky’s sibling UK ISP and video streaming service, NOW TV (NOW Broadband), are due to inform those that take their popular “Entertainment Pass” and “Hayu Pass” to expect an 11.1% and 25% increase, respectively, in their monthly rental prices from 1st September 2020.

Cable broadband provider Virgin Media has announced that their Virgin TV Go app will now allow their Pay TV customers to watch the Sky Cinema channels, as well as hundreds of movies on-demand. Users will also be able to download movies so that they can watch them on the move or at a time that suits them.

Sky (Sky Broadband) has today unveiled a “raft of new features” for their Sky Q TV boxes and service, such as a new expanded view User Interface (UI), simple new show and sports centres, intuitive smart buttons, Disney+ in HDR (for the first time) and improved voice discovery. But still no Sky Q over broadband.

At present most consumer UK internet traffic is made up of video content (70-80%) and one of the problems with having a slower broadband ISP connection is that you’re often stuck with lower quality streaming. But that could be about to change with the new H.266 Versatile Video Coding standard, which offers 50% more compression.

Broadband ISP Zen Internet looks to have become the latest provider to add a Pay TV service after they began contacting existing customers to offer them a special deal on the Netgem TV (IPTV) platform, which reduces the normal monthly cost from £14.99 to £9.99 and is free for the first month (on a 12 month contract).

Low cost broadband ISP TalkTalk has today refreshed some of their packages and also appear to have stopped selling the Sky Sports and Sky Cinema boosts to customers via their YouView (IPTV) based Pay TV platform, which previously cost £18 and £36 extra per month respectively to add.

Customers of UK ISP Origin Broadband are to be offered a new Pay TV service after IPTV supplier Netgem TV announced that it had just launched their “largest deployment deal to date” with the internet provider, which is being bundled alongside their broadband and phone packages with prices from £12.99 per month.

Disney has confirmed that it will soon no longer be possible to watch their linear TV channels via Sky (Sky Broadband) or Virgin Media after carriage talks failed to produce an agreement. Instead the channels will be moved to the company’s new Disney+ video streaming service from 1st October 2020.
