The SpeedGeo project, which compares global internet quality by benchmarking the connection speeds of real users, has published their 2026 results for the United Kingdom. The outcome once again awards Virgin Media as the fastest broadband ISP, while Three UK came top for mobile broadband (4G, 5G etc.). But some big names are missing.
The study is based on data gathered from real measurements conducted by users of their V-SPEED applications, including via their website, as well as on Android, iOS, Windows and macOS. A total of 100,896 tests were conducted across mobile connections using smartphones or tablets between 1st April 2025 and 31st March 2026, which increased to 852,040 for broadband (inc. WiFi and cabled connections).
As with the above note, there are always caveats to consider with speedtest based studies like this, not least because the results for broadband lines tend to be more reflective of take-up than network availability. For example, some fixed ISPs may have a much larger proportion of customers on slower copper-based lines (ADSL or FTTC), which can weigh against those on faster FTTP services with the same provider (i.e. pulling the average down).

Otherwise, the operators in both the broadband and mobile categories were all ranked based on average download speed (from highest to lowest), although they also include figures for upload speeds and network latency (milliseconds), which is nice to have. The catch is that SpeedGeo’s awards only seem to list three providers for each category, which misses a lot of key players. For example, the broadband table makes no mention of TalkTalk, Sky Broadband or Zen Internet etc., while the mobile table overlooks O2.
SpeedGeo – Fastest UK Broadband ISP Awards for 2026
| Provider | Download (Mbps) | Upload (Mbps) | Ping (ms) |
| Virgin Media | 266.2 | 49 | 22.8 |
| Vodafone | 185.6 | 85.9 | 23.8 |
| BT (EE) | 131.8 | 35.2 | 21 |
SpeedGeo – Fastest UK Mobile Operator Awards for 2026
| Provider | Download (Mbps) | Upload (Mbps) | Ping (ms) |
| Three UK | 100.8 | 15.6 | 41.6 |
| EE (BT) | 81 | 18 | 36.4 |
| Vodafone | 62.7 | 13.1 | 43 |
Now for those who want a more comprehensive list, SpeedGeo’s website does include a longer list that includes alternative networks and virtual mobile operators, although the following results aren’t weighted like the awards above, and we don’t know anything about the sample sizes or the data gathering period. But needless to say that in these tables CommunityFibre is named as the fastest for broadband, while EE (BT) comes top for mobile. Take with a pinch of salt.
