Customers of TalkTalk have today become the unwitting recipients of the ISPs latest ‘Pricing Notification’ update, which has revealed a raft of price rises for line rental services (e.g. an increase from £15.40 to £15.95), call charges and broadband packages.

UK members of the hugely popular WordPress.com website, which allows users to setup their own blogs using WP’s Content Management System (CMS), have been reporting a variety of access a usability problems with the service since the beginning of last week. A big finger of blame is now being pointed at TalkTalk’s Internet filtering.

It’s only a drop in the ocean but BT has agreed to repay over £1.2m to fully unbundled (LLU MPF) ISPs and phone line providers, such as Sky Broadband and TalkTalk, after a “mistake” in its response to an earlier Ofcom review of the operators charge controls meant that a key piece of information was left out.

Google Public DNS Internet Traffic Hijacked and Redirected to BT Latin America

Internet users that have chosen to replace their broadband ISPs own Domain Name Servers (DNS) with Google’s free Public DNS alternative, which translates IP addresses into human readable form and vice versa, had a bit of a shock over the weekend when their traffic was redirected (hijacked) and sent to BT’s Latin America division in Venezuela and Brazil.

Fibre optic broadband ISP Gigaclear has announced that firms on the Kingston Business Park (Kingston Bagpuize) in Oxfordshire now have the ability to order an up to 10,000Mbps (Megabits per second) capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based Internet service, which is a lot better than BT’s old up to 8Mbps ADSL connectivity.

In an entirely unsurprising new study the incumbent telecoms operator for Hull in Yorkshire, KC, surveyed 2,003 adults via YouGov to discover that most Britons (51%) could not do without Internet access over Lent, which compares with 43% of people who couldn’t give up TV.

On the flip side their old service and all your files will soon be gone.

EE UK Make 4G Mobile Broadband Roaming Possible in France and Spain

Mobile operator EE has announced that their customers in the United Kingdom will now also be able to benefit from “superfast” 4G (LTE) based Mobile Broadband connectivity when roaming around France and Spain, which will be offered at no extra cost over their existing charges. RootMetrics has today published their H2 2013 Rootscore Report, which uses data collected from 840,000 network and speed tests conducted across the United Kingdom to reveal which mobile operator is best for Internet access, calls and texting. Suffice to say that EE topped the table in all respects, while Vodafone was almost always at the bottom.

ISPA UK Calls for Changes to Tackle Vexatious Consumer ISP Complaints

The UK Internet Service Providers Association has called for changes to the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process that could address the problem of “vexatious” consumer complaints and, in relation to that, situations where broadband ISPs pay hundreds of pounds in ADR fees despite winning their case.

BT Changes UK Phone Call Clearing Procedure to Stop Fraudsters

BT are about to make a small but important change, which will significantly reduce the time that a phone call connection is held open (active) after the called party puts their handset down (i.e. such as when you end a voice call). It’s hoped this will make it more difficult for fraudsters to trick people into thinking they’ve called a legitimate service.

ThinkingWISP Extends Wireless Broadband to 90 Percent of Norfolk UK

Fixed wireless broadband ISP ThinkingWISP can now reach 90% of Norfolk in England after it was able to install two new masts in Outwell (near Wisbech) and at Gayton (near King’s Lynn). The new infrastructure also gives them some coverage in the counties of Cambridgeshire and Suffolk.
