The UK Government’s Minister for the Digital Economy, Ed Vaizey MP, will on Wednesday hold a “not-spot summit“, which will bring broadband ISPs, mobile operators, politicians, the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) and Countryside Alliance (CA) together in order to debate how best to close the remaining gaps in fast broadband coverage.

The CEO of UK telecoms regulator Ofcom, Sharon White, has made one last ditch attempt to block the merger of mobile operators O2 and Three UK by calling on the European Commission’s competition regulator, which has the final say, not to ignore the serious competition concerns.

Andrews and Arnold (AAISP) has officially made their new Home::1T broadband package available to order, which combines an ‘up to’ 80Mbps FTTC (VDSL2) connection with a monthly data allowance of 1 TeraByte (1000 GigaBytes) and line rental for a single cost of £60 per month.

BT has today released its latest Q4 2015 results (calendar) and confirmed that their retail division has a total of 7,996,000 broadband subscribers (up by +130K vs +82K in Q3), with 3,689,000 of those on their superfast BTInfinity (FTTC) service (up by +250K in Q4 vs +212K in Q3). The operator has also revealed some more details about their post EE merger plans.

The Post Office will today launch a new deal that offers their top unlimited broadband package at half price (£4 a month) for the first 12 months of service (£8 per month thereafter), although you still have to pay for line rental from the equivalent of £14 a month if pre-paid for a year or £16 as standard.

The cross-party Science and Technology Select Committee (House of Commons) has today warned that the Government’s controversial new Investigatory Powers Bill (IPB) could cost significantly more than claimed and needs to be clearer about what it expects ISPs to actually do.
