After one month of muddy digging TrueSpeed Communications has finally announced that they’ve connected their first North East Somerset (England) customer to a new 100Mbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in the rural village of Priston.

Internet provider BT has today replaced their old Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC / VDSL) based 38Mbps BTInfinity 1 broadband service with a new up to 52Mbps package speed, which they brag is “a faster standard fibre service” than you can get from Sky Broadband, TalkTalk or Virgin Media.

The telecoms regulator has today published a new Spectrum Sharing Framework and opened a consultation (Call for Input) to investigate whether radio spectrum in the 3.8GHz to 4.2GHz bands should be shared. The bands are currently used by satellite earth stations, fixed links and by the wireless provider UK Broadband Ltd.

The Government’s Digital Economy Minister, Ed Vaizey, has told a select committee inquiry into digital connectivity that he would expect to start seeing “gigabit” (1000Mbps+) speed broadband from 2020-25 and that the 10Mbps Universal Service Obligation (USO) should be “coming on stream” towards the end of 2017 or 2018.

Sky (Sky Broadband) has today officially confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that any existing customer who wish to buy the new Sky Q Hub broadband router can do so by paying a one-off fee, which means that you don’t have to take out a Sky Q TV bundle in order to get it.

Openreach (BT) has reportedly expanded their new trial of “ultrafast” 330Mbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband technology in Haydon Wick (North Swindon), which originally aimed to serve a total of around 500 local homes, to include 277 properties in the Taw Hill area.

Some 100 businesses on the Minworth Industrial Estate, which resides between Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham in the West Midlands, will soon be able to access broadband speeds of up to 100Mbps thanks to a new network deployment by Coventry-based ISP WarwickNet.
