The Community Fibre Partnerships scheme that BT setup a little while back, which is a co-funded approach that works with local groups in order to deliver faster broadband into poorly served areas, has so far helped to cover 20,000 extra premises across the UK and they’re set to deliver 40,000.

It’s been four months since Cityfibre’s 45km Gigabit capable fibre optic (FTTP) network went live in the Northamptonshire town of Northampton and the operator has today announced that the first “businesses” are finally live, but the only one they’ve named is their own ISP partner DBfB.

Sky has today published their latest results to 31st December 2016, which reveals that in the last six months they’ve added +140,000 new Sky Broadband subscribers in the UK and Ireland to total 6.1 million (up from +70K added in H1 2016). Plus you’ll soon be able to get Sky Q TV via broadband.

A new report from Communications Chambers, which was funded by Deutsche Telekom, has suggested that tackling broadband needs by focusing on pure ultrafast fibre optic (FTTP/H) connectivity is “backward looking” and it might be better to foster a fibre fed 5G wireless future.

A new report from Point Topic has revealed that the total number of world fixed broadband subscribers grew by 2.25% during Q3 2016 and now stands at 822.7 Million (up from 745m one year earlier), with the majority of growth being fuelled by pure fibre optic (FTTH/P) connectivity.

Last week news broke that Sky Broadband intended to raise the monthly price of Phone Line Rental from 1st March 2017 (it’s currently £17.40), although the ISP refused to say by how much. Today we’ve had it confirmed that the price will rise by 9.14% to £18.99 per month.

Communications provider EE has further reduced the price of their ‘up to’ 76Mbps capable unlimited ‘Fibre Plus Broadband‘ (FTTC) package today, which is now just £32.50 per month for the first 18 months of service (£40.50 thereafter) and there’s also a £32 one-off connection fee.

Billions of pounds have been wiped off BT Group’s share price this morning (currently trading at 310p, down by nearly 19% from 382p yesterday) after the operator’s business in Italy was hit by an “improper accounting practices” fiasco (i.e. they’ve overstated their earnings by £530m).
