The Northern Ireland Executive (DfE) has today announced that the first customers have now gone live on the new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network, which is being built with state aid support from the £165m Project Stratum programme.

The CEO of BT’s (EE) UK Consumer broadband and mobile division, Marc Allera, is attempting to resuscitate the age-old debate over Net Neutrality (i.e. treating all internet traffic on their networks equally) by calling for the rules to be changed because “there are very good reasons to enable preferential access to certain platforms.”

CityFibre UK has today announced that they’ve started detailed survey work for another of their planned builds, which will see them invest £30 million to deploy a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across the Lancashire city of Preston.

Broadband ISP Zen Internet has just become the first provider to confirm that their residential service is now available to those covered by CityFibre’s new £80 million rollout of a 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in the East Midlands city of Leicester, which began last June 2020 (here).

London-focused broadband ISP CommunityFibre, which is currently deploying their 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across parts of the city, has today introduced a new range of business packages with improved features (e.g. 4G based backup, money-back guarantee etc.).

Beware the backlog. Network access provider Openreach (BT) has been informing UK ISPs that new installations for their ultrafast broadband products (FTTP, Gfast and SOGfast), which had previously been delayed to 1st March 2021 onwards, are now set to restart at the later date of Monday 15th March.

A new report from UK consumer complaints handler firm Ombudsman Services (OS), which is an Ofcom approved Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) provider for UK broadband ISPs, mobile operators and energy providers, has found that many people are still confused about when and where to get unresolved complaints tackled.
