The Welsh Government (WG) has today published a new Digital Strategy for Wales, which among other things sets out how they will use the levers at their disposal to support the public sector, businesses and homes in Wales to receive the broadband and mobile connectivity they need. But at this stage it’s all still a bit vague.

Alternative UK ISP Zzoomm has today announced the first deployment of their 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband network in North Yorkshire (England), which will take place in the poorly served market town and civil parish of Thirsk.

Satellite operator Avanti Communications, which is based in the UK and runs the HYLAS network of five large communication satellites in high earth orbit (35,792km) for rural broadband and backhaul delivery, has appointed former OneWeb man Vikas Grover to be its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

Rural UK ISP Ecom, which is busy deploying a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to remote rural parts of Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, has just put their network live across the tiny rural village of Hulcott, outside of Aylesbury.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and Ofcom have today published an update to their joint plan for tackling nuisance and scam calls, which comes after they both reported a surge in complaints from September/October to December 2020 compared to the same period in 2019.

Alternative network provider County Broadband, which is currently deploying a 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) service across rural parts of England, has today announced that they’ve added 12 villages on the Suffolk and Norfolk borders area to their rollout plan. “Thousands of rural homes and businesses” are set to benefit.

Last year we reported that smaller full fibre building alternative UK broadband network providers (AltNets) were furious after Openreach imposed a “punitive” new fee on those using Ethernet (e.g. EAD) products to feed their FTTP service to end-users (here). You had to do some digging to find it, but Ofcom has chosen to uphold this.
