A new study has analysed 5,603 mobile data (mobile broadband) plans from across 237 countries in order to compare the cost of a 1GB (GigaByte) data allowance, which reveals that the United Kingdom slightly improved its rank from 59th in 2022 to 58th in 2023, with an average price of USD $0.62 per GB (down from $0.79).

The UK telecoms and media regulator, Ofcom, has today proposed to “take back” a sizeable amount of phone numbers from a long list of broadband and communication providers that are no longer trading (i.e. those that have been dissolved, gone into liquidation or closed).

Communications, insurance and energy provider Utility Warehouse (Telecom Plus) has today become the latest broadband ISP to join CityFibre’s growing national Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to help reach more homes, which is being handled via their existing relationships with TalkTalk’s Wholesale division.

Gigabit broadband ISP YouFibre, which sells packages via Netomnia and Cityfibre’s respective 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) networks – across different parts of the United Kingdom, has today reported that they now have a total customer base of 50,000 (up from 22,000 at the start of 2023 and 45,000 in August 2023).

Rural broadband ISP Gigaclear has today announced that they’ve achieved a key milestone by passing 500,000 premises across England with their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, which falls to 430,000 premises passed when only looking at those in a Ready for Service (RFS) state.

Mobile operator Vodafone appears to have quietly dropped support for inclusive roaming in 83 destinations on their 24-month SIM Only plans, which for example used to be available on their Unlimited Max Xtra + Entertainment plan. Supporting plans now only offer inclusive roaming in 51 European destinations.

CityFibre has announced that they’ve awarded their “first round of contracts” to civil engineering firms under their state-aid supported Project Gigabit broadband rollout contracts in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Hampshire and Suffolk. The deployments will bring full fibre (FTTP) lines to a total of 715,000 extra rural properties.
