Fern Trading’s UK Fibre Networks Start Shifting ISP Customers to Cuckoo

The ongoing efforts by investment group Fern Trading (Octopus Investments) to consolidate all four of their alternative UK full fibre broadband ISP networks (here) – Jurassic Fibre, Swish Fibre, Giganet and AllPoints Fibre – has reached a critical point, with customers starting to be migrated to a central retail provider, Cuckoo.

Quickline UK Deploy FTTP Broadband to 3 New Lincs Villages

UK ISP Quickline, which is building a new gigabit-capable full fibre (FTTP) broadband network across parts of England, has announced that their network has just gone live across three new villages – Burton, Navenby and Metheringham – in rural Lincolnshire (total of over 2,000 extra premises passed).

BT Broadband UK Customers Suffer Xbox Game Pass Billing Errors

Internet, phone and TV provider BT (EE) has long bundled Xbox Game Passes on some of their broadband packages, particularly full fibre (FTTP) plans, which until recently often included a free 6-12 month subscription to the online gaming service. But some customers now complain the ISP has charged them for the service, without their knowledge or consent.

Competition Watchdog Investigates Vodafone and Three UK Merger UPDATE

In an expected development, the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority has today launched a formal Phase 1 investigation into the proposed mega-merger (here) between mobile operators Three UK and Vodafone, which will slash the number of mobile operators in the market from four to three and may impact upon competition, consumer prices, jobs and security.

CityFibre, which is busy rolling out a 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across the UK, has today celebrated reaching the £100m in revenue milestone in 2023. The operator also confirmed that their network now covers 3.5 million premises (3.2m Ready for Service) and has 337,000 live customer connections.

Ofcom Shames Virgin Media and O2 for UK Telecoms Complaints UPDATE

Ofcom has published their latest study of UK consumer complaints for Q3 2023, which names Virgin Media as the worst for attracting the most gripes about fixed broadband, landline phone and pay TV services. Meanwhile, O2, which is part of the same company, attracted the most complaints for Pay Monthly Mobile services.

3,000 Fibrus Broadband Users Cut-off by Storms Isha and Jocelyn

Over 3,000 of Fibrus’ full fibre broadband ISP customers, mostly across rural parts of Northern Ireland, have been left disconnected from the internet after two named storms – Isha and Jocelyn – hit across the UK in quick succession. Some of those affected have been told to wait as long as a week for service restoration.

O2 UK Highlights New Masts to Boost Shetland 4G Mobile Cover

Mobile operator O2 (Virgin Media) has today highlighted the deployment of a new mobile mast to boost 4G (mobile broadband) coverage on the remote rural Shetland island, which sits far away off the north coast of Scotland. Mobile network operator and ISP Vodafone UK has now, after previously announcing that they were retiring both their old c.35-38Mbps Fibre 1 (FTTC / VDSL2) and related Full Fibre 1 (FTTP) home broadband packages for new customers (not existing subscribers), said this was done in error. But the related Social Tariff is still missing.

Wind Farm Grant Extends B4RN’s Barrasford FTTP Broadband Build

Community ISP B4RN (Broadband for the Rural North), which since 2011 has been working with volunteers to deploy a new 10Gbps full fibre (FTTP) network across rural parts of England, has secured a key grant of £66,000 from the Ray Wind Farm to help their network extend across more of the Barrasford area in Northumberland.
