UPDATE BSG Claim UK Businesses Failing to Capitalise on Faster Broadband

A new report from the Broadband Stakeholder Group (BSG), which is a sometimes controversial think-tank for the Government on matters of broadband policy, has warned that Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) across the United Kingdom are failing to unlock the “commercial potential” of faster broadband connectivity.

Communications provider EE will today remove the £50 connection fee from their superfast “Unlimited Fibre Broadband” (FTTC) packages, which offer speeds of up to 76Mbps and currently also benefit from a 3 months half price discount.

UPD Sky Broadband Criticise BT Openreach UK for Consistently Poor Service

BTOpenreach, which is responsible for maintaining BT’s national UK network, has said that it’s always “working to improve” its service after at least two ISPs – Sky Broadband (BSkyB) and TalkTalk – both criticised their service quality ahead of Ofcom’s on-going review of the fixed telecoms market.

David Cameron Defends Broadband Delivery UK from “slightly unfair” Criticism

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron, has told a select committee meeting that some of the recent criticism directed towards his £1.2bn scheme to improve the availability of superfast broadband has been “slightly unfair“. But he is prepared to look at the “possibilities” of BT having an unfair monopoly on related contracts.

O2 UK Confirm 4G Mobile Broadband Launch for 29th August 2013

Mobile operator O2 (O24G) look set to be the first to take on EE’s rival network after announcing a 29th August 2013 launch date and the first roll-out locations for their new 4G (LTE at 800MHz) based Mobile Broadband network, which eventually aims to reach 98% of the UK population (indoor and outdoor).

Superfast Cornwall UK Project Hits Fibre Broadband Coverage Milestone

YouView YourView, the broadband ISP based video-on-demand and catch-up TV (IPTV) service, have announced that Lord Alan Sugar, whom is perhaps best known as the man who founded Amstrad and says “Your’re fired!” a lot on a certain TV show, has decided to leave his role as Non-Executive Chairman.

UPD Wales UK to Close Popular GBP4m Broadband Support Scheme

The Welsh Government’s semi-popular £4m Broadband Support Scheme, which provided cash grants worth up to £1,000 to help those living in the most digitally isolated parts of Wales (UK) gain access to faster internet services, will come to a close on 31st March 2013.

ISP O2 UK and BE See Slower Decline to 617800 Broadband Subscribers

Mobile operator and ISP O2 UK (Telefonica) has today released its latest quarterly results to the end of March (Q1-2012), which revealed that their fixed line broadband subscriber base (includes BE Broadband customers) had continued to decline by -2,500 (net) between Q4-2011 and Q1-2012 to reach a new total of 617,800.
