Full fibre builder Netomnia has today announced that the Wiltshire town of Trowbridge and the Somerset town of Frome will be next in line to benefit from their rollout of a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network. This aims to cover 1 million UK homes and businesses by the end of 2023.

Openreach (BT) has today announced that they’ve connected 100,000 customers, via various different partner ISPs, to their new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in Northern Ireland. All of this will complement the £130m (capex) currently being invested between 2021 and 2022 to expand their coverage across NI.

Morden-based UK broadband ISP Grayshott Gigabit, which a few months ago (here) started to deploy a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across rural parts of East Hampshire, the Surrey Hills and surrounding areas, has finally started to go live for customers in the village of Hindhead (Surrey).

Ofcom has released their Connection Nations 2021 UK digital infrastructure report, which reveals that the coverage of “gigabit-capable” (1Gbps+) broadband ISP networks has jumped from 27% last year to 47% now (13.7 million households). Plus, around half of UK properties are in areas where 5G mobile is available outside.

UK ISP Box Broadband, which is now part of CommunityFibre (here) and has already extended their own Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to cover 7,000 homes across parts of Surrey and West Sussex (England), has today become the latest provider to bundle in Netgem’s pay TV box and service.

The MP for the small city of Stirling in Scotland, Alyn Smith (SNP), has revealed that CityFibre, which recently completed the rollout of a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network for over 20,000 premises in the city, may soon extend this network to reach thousands of premises in nearby villages.

Smaller UK alternative network ISPs are increasingly starting to butt heads in some of the same areas. The latest example comes from the small market town of Thame in Oxfordshire (England), where Swish Fibre and Gigaclear have both started to go live with a new full fibre broadband network, within days of each other.

The network currently covers around 20,000 premises and has connected 9,000 of those.

The Welsh Government has issued a Q3 2021 progress update on their £52.5m Phase 2 Superfast Cymru contract with BT (Openreach), which confirms that 24,515 premises (up from 20,490 in Q2) have now gained access to the operator’s 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network.
