Surprised to see some earlier negative reviews that run counter to my experience. here's my take for what it's worth - I was a Metronet customer subsumed by Plusnet and having been with them for a number of years I have no complaints.

I should add that I'm not a gamer or P2P so ping times and latency are of little significance to me. I'm a bog standard surfer and get consistent speed of around 3.1 mbs which is fine for my needs.

I have had dealings with Plusnet support both via online tickets and by telephone [ref linespeeds - which turned out to be my faulty router not officially supported by Plusnet)- being situated at Sheffield there are no language problems and the system does NOT seem to depend on you asking a question that is on a pre-prepared script!

I have always found the support team people to be polite, helpful and willing to up-refer a query if outside their immediate experience.

All this must be considered against their charges - I get 10Gb download allowance for £5.99 & that is hard to beat. There's also a 10 day canx notice period: none of the annual contract nonsense. Perhaps I might get faster for £25 with another ISP but my needs are undemanding and Plusnet is a very cost-effective solution.

In summary, I'm very satisfied with Plusnet and can't complain for £6 monthly.

[no connections with Plusnet - I detest BT even though they own Plusnet!]

Plusnet I find are very unhelpfull in resolving a slow broadband speed. I was receiving 2meg but since going with Plusnet over 2 weeks it has dropped to currently 450Kbps, totally unnaceptable, and all they are giving is delaying tactics and a cant care less attitude instead of dealing with the fault. The quote they are signed up to OFT to give the best speed available, why then is next door on BT broadband getting 3 meg and my speed is reducing daily, all tests show the line stable and no noise, good ping, could support 3 meg but they wont supply. out of a score of 10 they get 1/2 and thats only because they dont have technical people in India, but they may as well have with the support they supply, Nil. They need to buck up their ideas or customers will walk, I for one after 3 weeks in total will be asking for my MAC code and going with either O2 or BT.

I've been a customer with Plusnet for many many years. Since BT took over, the service has plummeted to a terrible state. I pay for the upper package which promised up to 8Mb download speeds. I rarely see more than 0,6Mb these days and connection drops constantly. My email accounts are always being denied access. After two weeks of trying to resolve the familiar problems AGAIN, I am still no closer to resolution with them. They blame BT for all the problems (ironically!) and when I complained to customer services, the response was quite frankly extremely rude.

After many years, I would whole heatedly NOT recommend this company. Do yourself a favour and research this company well - you will see it is a common view.

I joined Plusnet from Fast.co.uk where I was told I would be taking my speed problems with me. The opposite is very true. My speed rarely dips below 4MB. Even in the so-called busy periods. The cost is reasonable saving me about £7 per week on my previous ISP for exactly the same usage. The so-called speed problems did not follow me as was predicted.

I was weary of moving to Plusnet having read previous forum reports on this ISP.
Am now glad I did.
Also using the same wireless connection as with previous ISP. This was also used to blame for problems.

Average Speeds: 4475 Kbps down. 364kbps up. on Namesco speedtester.

This is the average speed taken from 42 speed tests between 08/07/09 to 08/08/09

Title: Minusnet
We all like to think we are valued customers who pay decent money for a decent service. Unfortunately the value of customers is not what it was and the service Plusnet has provided over the last eight years has sunk to its lowest ebb yet. A simple house move has proved beyond them and the consternation I have felt dealing with obstinate 'customer advisors' has proved to be the straw that broke the camel's back. Service is lacklustre and support now laughable. Whilst the speed and value in my opinion are fine I have come to believe that if you want a decent overall service you have to vote with your feet. As it appears with most things these days in chasing custom, providers become all to complacent towards their existing customer base but roll out the carpet for newbies. I for one will be leaving the sinking ship 'Minusnet' and looking elsewhere to spend my hard cash in future.

Plusnet are a complete joke. I have been with them for 9 years now, through various good and bad times. I am in the IT business and frequently recommend clients to use them. I have been trying for 4 weeks now to become a plusnet reseller, I've left various messages but no body ever replier to my phone calls.

I finally had enough and this morning I asked for a MAC key. I explained why and the person at the other end of the line, tried to do his best and ask'd I'd give him until midday to get one of the business partner team to speak to me, he called me back at 12:00 to say that non of the them would speak to me.

I'll be taking my existing and any future customers else ware, I hope Plusnet go bust very soon, with an attitude like that, they do not deserve to be in business.

My advise would be don’t touch this lot with a barge pole!

Frequent speed issues......constant disconnections. Told that problem had been fixed, only for it to get worse. Threatened with nasty charges if I cancel also (how can I be charged for something that's unusuable in the first place) Avoid.

I have been with MADASAFISH for sometime now (previously Freenetname). On 20 March 2009 they made changes to their systems. As a consequence I stopped receiving all my emails for an extended period. The staff at the call centre (based in India) were very poor at listening, reading previous 'tickets' and sharing information with each other. I was caught in a thankless loop of jumping through hoops, for over a month, as they did not seem to be able to sort the problem out..paying to listen to banal music whilst waiting for them to answer or transfer the phone....in fact it was implied that I was wrong several times and that it must be my fault that email were not coming through. I was advised much later that there were circa 250 emails (many of which were confidential and from reputable sources) on their server, therefore I must have them in my inbox.....these emails were not even on my webmail, in Outlook or on my Iphone. They even accessed my account, without my permission, then sent, received emails then deleted them. Eventually I cut and run by transferring my ISP directly with Nominet ( I didn't have to pay MADASAFISH then!) and paid my last bill (which they could not even agree on!) in 30+ cheques to the value of £1 each....it costs alot more to bank them then the bill was worth (about £5 per cheque). Case is now with Watchdog, OFCOM and my solicitor!!!! Do not use MADASAFISH.
Good news is that all the things that MADASAFISH are have been sorted by my new ISP...goodbye MADASAFISH you were the worst customer service experience that I have ever had...world-wide!!

But what happened to them?

Before plusnet the services were great. Now every two weeks my connection is down for 12 hours.

The support is a joke: no way to contact them by phone. I wonder if there really have a call center... ????

During the billing system migration they lost my payment. Two weeks of fight!! After two weeks they found my payment.

I\'m going to cancel my contract. So so sad... Metronet is broken.

Used to be V Happy with Metronet. Since PlusNet takeover attitude appears to have changed. Improvements ? may be more to make their own life easier(whatever happened to being able to make payments on your account instead of them taking the payment - why no Direct Debit then ?). Customer Support (when they get round to answering) not as cheerful and helpful as they were - positively aggressive and downright rude this week. Seem to have more snags lately - had a failure this week - entire network out for hours before they migrated everyone to PlusNet whilst they fixed it. Looking for a new ISP now - Metronet no longer seems the best option.
