Business ISP Andrews & Arnold ( AAISP ) has launched a scathing attack on BT's 21CN broadband back-haul, claiming that the operators network "simply cannot cope with demand at present". The primary problems are with high latency and some packet loss, mostly during the day when there are any high levels of streaming video media.

Mobile operator Three (3) UK has scrapped its use of "unlimited" wording when promoting Mobile Broadband internet data tariffs for its vast range if Smartphone's, which often hid more restrictive Fair Usage Policy (FUP) caps under the surface. The move mirrors a position taken by rival O2 last month (here).

Telecoms giant BT Retail UK has doubled the monthly download allowance of its Total Broadband Option 2 package, which costs £20.99 inc. VAT per month as a standalone service, from a paltry 20GB to 40GB (12 month contract).

Popular ISP Be Broadband has revealed that their much anticipated phone (line rental) service - BE Landline, which will launch this September 2010, has opened up its preliminary service trial to non-BE members. A recent survey conducted by BE found that 61% did not want to pay BT for their line rental.

The Valuation Office Agency's (VOA) controversial fibre optic broadband tax (Fibre Tax), which essentially taxes the rateable value of the basic infrastructure, looks set to become even more unfair than it already is. New changes due to come into force this month will reduce the rateable value for larger ISPs but leave the entry cost of smaller operators unchanged, further widening an already significant gap.

The BT Vision IPTV service has announced that it is launching the "UK's best value deal" for Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 for just £16.99 a month. This follows news earlier in the week that BT and BSkyB ( Sky Broadband ) had signed a new wholesale contract for the supply of Sky's popular sports TV channels (here).
