Business ISP Andrews & Arnold ( AAISP ) reports that BT has responded positively to the providers recent criticism of its 21CN infrastructure, when they openly claimed that the operators network "simply [could not] cope with demand at present" (here). Since last week BT has now resolved many of the issues that AAISP had.

Residents of Iwade, a rural village in Kent (UK), can now benefit from up to 40Mbps "super-fast" FTTC fibre optic based broadband internet access thanks to a new partnership between BT and the local Parish Council. By Autumn 2010, all 1,350 premises in Iwade will have access to BT's fibre broadband service.

David Palmer, the Senior Product Manager for Networks and Connectivity at Star, a business ISP for managed services, has hit out at the UK governments Universal Service Commitment (USC) to deliver a minimum broadband speed of 2Mbps to everybody in the country by 2012. Palmer feels that 2Mbps is, even by today’s standard, already too slow and believes that alternatives must be explored lest we lapse into an even bigger digital divide between urban and rural areas.

Two of the country's largest internet access providers (ISP), BT Retail and TalkTalk UK, which combined account for a staggering 9.3 Million broadband subscribers, have called on the High Court to mount a Judicial Review of the controversial 2010 Digital Economy Act (DEA).

A new customer fairness survey of 2,193 British adults aged 18+ by Brandspeak has unearthed an increase in consumer confidence with UK mobile operators and broadband ISPs. Some 80% felt that O2 was committed to the fair treatment of its customers, while Microsoft and Orange scored 77% and 73% respectively. Just 63% of Three (3) UK's customers felt that the operator was acting in their best interests.

Unlawful copyright broadband ISP file sharers (P2P - BitTorrent etc.) in the UK and around the world, fearful of new government laws and the crackdown by Rights Holders, are shifting in their hundreds of thousands to using FREE and PAID encrypted Virtual Private Networks (VPN) to help protect their identity online (i.e. they are going underground).

Israel-based ECI Telecom, a global provider of networking infrastructure equipment, especially GPON, GbE (Gigabit Ethernet) and other fibre optic broadband internet access solutions, has won a crucial superfast broadband ISP infrastructure building contract with BT Openreach worth £528m ($800m USD).

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has been forced to cancel the notice for their industrial action ballot against BT after the UK telecoms operator threatened legal action over technical breaches, which could potentially have invalidated the ballot.

The Chief Technology Officer for business ISP Timico UK, Trefor Davies, has attacked several well known failings within BT Openreach's broadband and telephone line migration system. The problems, which Davies calls "anti-competitive", can lead to higher consumer costs and delays of roughly two weeks when switching to a new provider.

Mobile Broadband operator FREEDOM4 WiFi UK, which only two weeks ago was branded "loss-making" and became the subject of an existing management buyout from parent ISP Daisy Group for a nominal amount of money, has now launched a wholesale Wi-Fi service for small and medium sized service providers today.

The Welsh Assembly Government has announced a new support scheme worth £2 Million for internet have-nots. The money would be made available to residents and businesses who live in parts of Wales where even basic broadband connection speeds (0.5Mbps (512Kbps)) remain unavailable; otherwise known as "not-spots".

The coalition government's Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg (LibDem), has launched a new Your Freedom website where members of the public can put forward their own ideas for changing UK law. It's no surprise to find that one of the TOP 5 most active subjects on the website calls for an unconditional repeal of the controversial Digital Economy Act (DEA). This threatens to impose unworkable and potentially unfair restrictions upon broadband ISP's and their customers.

Internet search engine and advertising giant, Google, has predicted that UK broadband access will continue to grow rapidly despite the saturation among existing fixed line ISPs. Instead Google's head of technology, Matt Brittin, claims that the next "big shift" will be to Mobile Broadband access on Smartphone devices. We thought that already happened.

Communications provider Redstone Managed Solutions UK has launched a new range of "next-generation" business broadband packages for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). The service offers download speeds of up to 20Mbps and includes an unlimited usage allowance (Fair Usage Policy) with all of its packages.

It has not been the easiest of weeks for BT Openreach in the UK, with several installations of the operators new 40Mbps fibre optic ( FTTC ) based broadband ISP services suffering setbacks. Firstly BT contractors cut through a critical power cable in Middlewich while installing one of the new cabinets, which cut power to 400 homes and businesses for several hours.

Comparison site Broadband.co.uk has released its latest anecdotal monthly broadband speed testing results for June 2010. The average download speed for the largest UK ISPs has remained virtually unchanged since May 2010 at 4.957Mbps.

Earlier this year ISP Vtesse Networks UK, a national provider of fibre optic networking services, identified several Hertfordshire communities that they could reach with superfast broadband internet services (here). The new network has now been delivered to the leafy villages of Birch Green and Hertingfordbury.
