UK ISP Hyperoptic has announced that 865 residential units at Circus West Village, which is the first phase of a major new Battersea Power Station (BPS) redevelopment project in South West London, will be able to benefit from their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premise (FTTP/B) broadband network.
The BPS project is 42 acres and includes 3.5m sq ft of mixed commercial accommodation together with 4,364 new homes. The press release claims that new home-owners will start moving into the first phase, Circus West Village, early in 2017 with the first commercial tenants opening in Spring 2017. In keeping with that Hyperoptic has already started the installation work for their new network
David Walker, Head of Property at Hyperoptic, said:
“The BPS project is one of the UK’s most exciting redevelopment and place-making schemes, centered around one of the capital’s most recognisable landmarks. Every detail of the project has been meticulously planned to deliver a new, unrivalled community living experience. To be chosen to deliver the connectivity is further recognition of our true fibre approach, which is the benchmark of excellence for the UK broadband industry.”
Mike Varney, BPS Building Services Technical Manager, said:
“World-class infrastructure is at the heart of our award-winning project. All of our suppliers have been strategically selected to support this vision and give our vibrant new BPS community the best services in the market. Broadband infrastructure may be invisible, but its impact on our resident’s quality of life is significant. Hyperoptic is renowned in the industry for its phenomenal speeds, product range and service delivery. On behalf of our Malaysian shareholders, we are thrilled to have Hyperoptic on board as a supplier.”
The announcement marks a major win for Hyperoptic, which is supported by investment worth over £75 million from various private partners and banks. The ISP is also continuing to roll-out their network across a growing number of UK cities including London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Cardiff, Bristol, Reading, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield, Birmingham, Newcastle and Brighton. On top of that they’re also starting to reach parts of Portsmouth, Watford, Leicester, Southampton, Slough, Edinburgh and Woking.
Generally speaking the operator tends to focus their fibre optic deployments on connecting big office blocks or homes inside large apartment buildings (i.e. Multi-Dwelling-Units with at least 50 units), although they have recently branched out to cover a sizeable housing estate (here) and more will soon follow.
Customers typically choose either their broadband and phone bundles (attracts no connection fee) or a standalone broadband-only service (attracts a one-off connection fee of £40). Both types of package offer unlimited usage, 24/7 support, an included wireless router, 12 month contract term and dynamic IP (CGNAT) or add £5 for a Static IP instead.
