UK Shunned by 2017 FTTH Ultrafast Broadband Country Ranking

The FTTH Council Europe, which campaigns for the adoption of Gigabit (1000Mbps+) capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) broadband technology, has published its latest 2017 global ranking and once again the United Kingdom is nowhere to be seen. But good progress is being made.

Iskratel Calls on Cable Broadband Operators to Ditch DOCSIS and Go FTTH

The Chief Architect of Slovenian telecoms technology provider Iskratel, Simon Cimzar, has warned that DOCSIS based Hybrid Fibre Coax (HFC) networks (e.g. Virgin Media) need to “look past the latest cable upgrades” (DOCSIS 3.1) and go directly to Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P).

ASDA Mobile UK Signs Upgraded 4G MVNO Extension Deal with BT

Supermarket giant ASDA has today signed a revised deal with BT, which for the first time will allow their ASDA Mobile service to make use of the EE’s faster 4G network via an extension of their existing Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) agreement.

Technology firm ASUS has this week become one of the first major manufacturers to officially release a G.fast integrated wireless broadband router (DSLAC88U), which also offers integrated ADSL/VDSL2, WiFi speeds of up to 3167Mbps and will cost you a small fortune.

The annual report from Ombudsman Services, which is one of Ofcom’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) handlers for consumer broadband, phone and mobile complaints, has revealed that UK people made 55 million complaints during 2016 and 13% were telecoms related.

Rural Norfolk UK Targets 95% Coverage of “High-Speed Broadband” by 2020

The Norfolk County Council and Openreach (BT) have announced that £11 million of “new funding” has been committed to help boost the coverage of “high-speed broadband” across the rural county to 95% of local homes and businesses by Spring 2020.
