A new broadband ISP and network builder called Upp (formerly FibreMe) has today unveiled its plan to invest £1 billion in order to deploy a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across 1 million premises in Eastern England by 2025. Hundreds of new jobs will also be created.

Mobile operator Three UK has this week launched a new range of “Boundless Business” packages, which are said to offer unlimited calls, texts (SMS) and data (mobile broadband) SIM packs from just £5 +vat per month each (but you’ll need to buy ten or more of them to reach that price point).

UK ISP SWS Broadband (Secure Web Services), which since 2015 has largely focused on building Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) network across rural communities in Shropshire and bordering parts of Wales, has confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that they’ve started to deploy a new gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network.

Alternative UK network ISP Jurassic Fibre has announced that the next location to benefit from their ongoing rollout of a new gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network will be the small South Somerset (England) town of Wincanton, as well as some of its surrounding areas.

At present Vodafone UK already sell ultrafast and gigabit speed broadband services to homes via CityFibre’s new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, but they’ve today announced that their partnership is being extended to harness CF’s Ethernet infrastructure too (i.e. more leased line style options for businesses).

BT has announced that they’ve begun trials of a new type of hollow core optical fibre cable at their BT Labs R&D facility in Adastral Park (Ipswich), which could in theory be more resistant to damage, while also delivering better performance (e.g. latency) for future broadband ISP and mobile connectivity services.

Following last month’s approval by the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and the full completion of its £31bn merger, a “new” UK company called Virgin Media O2 (VMO2) was officially launched today that has combined the fixed line broadband, phone, TV and mobile network businesses from both operators.

UK ISP Virgin Media has informed us that they will today further discount the prices for new customers taking out one of their ultrafast broadband and phone packages, which for example will see their entry-level 108Mbps (average speed) plan fall from the previous offer of £34 to just £25 per month for 18 months (£51 thereafter).

Homes in Abergavenny, Rhoose, Llantwit Major and Haverfordwest will be some of the first to benefit from UK ISP Spectrum Internet‘s £200m project to deploy a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in South Wales, which aims to cover 150,000 premises by late 2025. The provider has also rebranded itself to Ogi.
