Alternative broadband operator Netomnia (Substantial Group, YouFibre), which has deployed their full fibre (FTTP) network to cover over 3 million UK premises RFS (inc. 460,000 customers), have today announced that their deployment across the Brierley Hill Exchange area of Dudley (West Midlands) has now reached 50,000 premises (RFS).

Network analyst firm Streetwave has today shared the results from a recent study they conducted, which tested the mobile broadband coverage and speed of 4G and 5G networks (EE, Three UK, Vodafone and O2) in the Central London district of Southwark. The results found performance drops significantly at high footfall locations during peak times.

Broadband and mobile operator VMO2 (Virgin Media and O2) has warned UK customers to keep an eye out after it identified that criminals were exploiting AI‑powered tools and search engines. In short, consumers looking to contact trusted brands are being shown fake phone numbers, websites and search results, which fraudsters then use to capture data and perpetrate fraud.

Customers of BT’s residential home broadband ISP packages recently spotted that the provider’s MyBT App had begun including a new advert at the top of its home screen, which promoted a new Smart Hub 3 (SH3) router as “coming soon” and offering “Better WiFi for your home, ready for the future“. But the move has already created some confusion.

The Starlink (SpaceX) service, which sells affordable ultrafast broadband connectivity to UK and global consumers via a massive constellation of compact satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), has begun notifying customers that, effective from 20th May 2026, “dish location will no longer be available via the local device gRPC API“.

The Government’s Building Digital UK (BDUK) agency has today released their April 2026 update on the delivery progress of contracts that have been awarded under their £5bn Project Gigabit broadband rollout scheme. The update reveals that some 250,000 contracted premises (up from 227,310 in Mar 2026) have so far been covered out of a planned total of 1,047,200.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has this morning launched an initial review of the proposed £2bn acquisition (here) of alternative full fibre UK broadband operator Netomnia (Substantial Group) by the parents of nexfibre and Virgin Media (O2) – Liberty Global, Telefónica and InfraVia.

Wireless infrastructure provider Freshwave has today announced that they’ve worked with UK mobile operators EE, O2 and VodafoneThree (Vodafone and Three UK) to start rolling out the next “evolution” of their indoor focused small cell Omni Network, which could initially only harness 4G but has now been upgraded to handle 5G (mobile broadband).
