Connected Britain reveals 2026 UK broadband award winners

The annual Connected Britain Awards 2026 (Total Telecom) event took place at the end of last week, which among other things saw alternative full fibre ISP Connect Fibre scoop the “Broadband Provider of the Year” award, while Viberoptix (Fibrus) won the “Infrastructure Builder of the Year” award and VodafoneThree was handed the “Strategic Deal of the Year Award“ for their merger.

Ofcom secure BT changes to protect vulnerable UK users during digital phone switch

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has closed a compliance remediation process it had for broadband and phone provider BT, which reflected some weaknesses that the regulator found in the provider’s handling of vulnerable customers during the switch from analogue to digital (IP-based) phone services. Changes have now been made to fix this.

Amazon Leo buys 6 more Arianespace rocket launches for broadband satellites

The Amazon Leo service, which is building a new constellation to deliver thousands of ultrafast broadband satellites into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) for the UK and globally, has extended their existing agreement with Arianespace in Europe by adding six additional rocket launches (total of 24 launches) via their Ariane 6 vehicle.

Alternative full fibre operator Open Fibre Networks (OFNL), which serves developments of new build homes, have notified their broadband ISP partners across the UK that they’ve completed the integration work for FibreNest‘s network. In other words, retail ISPs on both sides of the network are now starting to gain access to each other’s fibre infrastructure.

Sky Broadband UK clarifies impact on users as Yahoo cut email storage to 15GB

After over a week of trying to get a clear answer, Sky Broadband has now confirmed to ISPreview that Yahoo Mail’s recent move to introduce new storage limits on their free UK email platform, which slashed the previous limit of 1 TeraByte (1,000GB) to 15 GigaBytes, will NOT apply to their own Yahoo based email platform (Sky Yahoo Mail); despite customers being told otherwise.
