26/10/06 BT option 3 @ 6mbps, now 8 months later between 0.156 and 2mbps are all I can expect. The probable cause seems to be exchange congestion. My exchange was provisionally earmarked for upgrade in May 2007. That has since been put back to 1st July 2007
BT advise that I may suffer slow speeds until September yet refuse to consider a reduced subscription rate as compensation saying they don\\\'t guarantee speeds only a B/Band connection!
My Exchange is not LLU active and even if I were able (8 months into an 18 month contract)moving ISP\\\'s would likely not realise any upturn in speeds until BT get the work done. Trapped and they know it!

This is my experience to date with BT Business Broadband

(*) Speed is as good as it gets for my line - consistently greater than 6.5Mps
(*) Support isn\'t that good - you usually have to go through a tortuous automated phone menu system only to get redirected / cut off at the end of it. You\'re also highly likely to end up speaking to someone in India (No offense).
(*) Line reliability is extremely high - I\'ve only had one 4 hour outage in the last 2-3 years
(*) Cost is higher than other ISPs.. but I\'m ok with that as my line performance is good.

Connection speed test
Speed test OK
BT Broadband Desktop Help tests your connection speed by downloading a test file and measuring the speed of the download.

Your computer downloaded the file at a speed of

1.243 megabits per second.

We consider this to be within the range of acceptable speeds for your line, bearing in mind that connection speed can vary throughtout the day depending on how busy the internet and BT\'s network are. During peak times (typically 6-9pm), connection speed can be significantly slower than at other times.

However, it may be possible to improve your connection speed by using the BT Broadband Desktop Help Speed test wizard\'. If you would like to run the wizard, please click the \'Speed test wizard\' button below.

I moved to BT broadband 2 months ago when I moved house. Two weeks ago the service stopped overnight, so I called technical support...

Never in my life have I come across such an incompetent customer service. They have no idea what they\'re doing, and communication and lack of continuity seem to be the main problems. My wife spoke to one girl, who took three minutes to understand our telephone number. I\'ve spoken to a different \'technician\' everyday, having to repeat myself over and over again. I\'ve spent over 8 hours of my life on the phone trying to get the service running but to no avail.

Until the call centre is in the UK don\'t touch

Since the 21/03/07 I have been with BT Totalbroadband and I can only say it has been a total nightmare what with a faulty homehub and now very slow speeds I have sent dozens of emails to support and had the on the phone telling me to unplug this & the other?. My speed drop to twice speed of dailup [113kbps] & [97kbps]I have given stick over this as it clearly states on their BT ADSL Checker I should receive adslmax of 4.5 or greater? this not the case so they now say that is a fault on my line & have book for a engineer to call on Monday well I wont be holding my breath as it may be just hot air? BT have to many pokers in the fire 2cope with

Title: Bye Bye BT
I\'ve been with BT all my internet life (about 10 years now) and I\'m sad to say that as soon as my latest contract is up in July, I\'m off. The reason? dreadful service.

The staff at their so-called support centres in India are simply not technically competent and I\'ve ended up having to resolve all of my problems myself through research and contacts with colleagues.

Trying to get hold of anyone in the UK is impossible and you never end up speaking to the same person twice in India. So sorry BT come July, it\'s goodbye from me.

I have been with this ISP since November 2004, when I first had my property enabled for ADSL. Overall BTY is ok, with decent speeds and very little downtime and this is similarly true for their POP and SMTP servers, I can only hope that ZEN remains as reliable as this, as I will miss it hehe. However there's the matter of their software...overall pretty shoddy, and loaded with useless programs, I uninstalled that after not using it. Finally their tech support is useless since they outsourced to India, if you have problems... forget it, they stick to their scripts pure and simple. Migrating to Zen tomorrow, bye bye BTY!

Having used about 5 ISPs over the years, I wish I had started out using BT - I have had no problems in 18 months and their support has been excellent when i\'ve had questions. Not the cheapest, but by far the best.

We have had BT Openworld at a previous address, it was ok, the current address has been a nightmare. The connection drops out every 5-10 minutes, breaking downloads and secure connections, is often slower than dialup and the service is unbelievably bad.

I called the support line about 8 times, who say call another number between 9 & 5. When you call them, they say they hangup because the queue to speak to technical advisers is over 2 hours long. They promise to call back but never do, and have not replied to letters.

Its clearly an exchange/line problem. An independent ISP would pursue it for you. BT don\'t respect their customers.

Been ok for around 12 months from the middle of 2005 appart from a small issue with dropping connections around October time. Sorted by the nice ladies at BT.
Now however, since the end of October to date I have no connection in the evening at all, if it tries to connect it struggles and then drops out completely. Rubbish support from the Indian call centre and after 3 engineer visits I am probably going to be told that the line is to long or the distance to the exchange to great. Has it been growing over the past 18 months or so I ask myself. Rather believe that BT have over sold the service.
