The ITS Technology Group, which has already deployed various open access and business-focused Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP / XGS-PON) broadband ISP and Ethernet networks across parts of the UK, has today announced that their full fibre infrastructure is to be extended into 13 additional towns and cities across England, Scotland and Wales.

A few years have passed since we had a national heatwave that, across a large swathe of the country, pushed daytime temperatures to around the 40c level. Today and tomorrow will see similar temperatures and that’s going to cause some broadband and mobile infrastructure to struggle, albeit almost certainly without major national blackouts.

Internet provider TalkTalk has confirmed to ISPreview that they’re no longer selling Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC / VDSL2) based broadband packages on Openreach’s network to new customers. But the ISP says that this is only a “pause” while they finish setting up their new platform.

Energy and communications provider Telecom Plus, trading as Utility Warehouse (UW), has today published their latest H2 FY26 Results to the end of March 2026 and revealed that their broadband ISP grew its total UK customer base to 568,647 (up from 561,086 in H1) and their mobile base grew to 787,426 (up from 698,054).

The Government has today proposed to switch-off terrestrial TV signals in either 2034 or 2044 as part of a wider change to reflect the move to internet-based streaming, provided broadband coverage is ready to support the transition (they expect it to be). Support will also be provided to the UK homes that may struggle to afford broadband, possibly backed by a new subsidy scheme.

Mobile operator O2 (Virgin Media) has this morning revealed that they will start switching off their “decades-old” 2G network starting in Summer 2029. The move follows their “successful” 3G switch off programme, which was completed at the end of 2025. But removing 2G is a slower and more complex process due to the many services that still depend upon it.

The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) has announced that they’re investigating a UK-based telecoms services provider called Internet Mobile Communications Limited (aka – Bank of Telecom) over allegations of “suspected fraud, false accounting, and money laundering“. The company collapsed into administration back in June 2024.

Broadband ISP BT has informed ISPreview that last Friday’s (19th June) FIFA World Cup 2026 match between Scotland v Morocco, which kicked off at 11pm BST (UK time), sent streaming demand across their network soaring, with a 544% increase in peak traffic through ITVX compared with an average evening.

Customers of consumer broadband provider TalkTalk, specifically those looking to engage with their community forum, have spent the past few days scratching their heads after both the forum and many supporting support pages on the provider’s website – including their all important ‘Service Status’ page – suddenly went offline.

Edinburgh-based alternative UK broadband network GoFibre, which is building a gigabit full fibre (FTTP) network across rural parts of Scotland and Northern England, has today awarded £12,000 to four community projects under their GoFurther fund in the Scottish Borders area where their infrastructure is being built.

Mobile and broadband operator VodafoneThree (Vodafone and Three UK) has today announced that they’ve extended their existing partnership with CityFibre, which will see the fixed line operator’s full fibre network being used to feed capacity for network transmission services at “selected mobile sites” in support of the operator’s 5G Standalone rollout.

At the end of last month CityFibre announced that they’d reached an agreement with the Government to significantly cut the roll-out scope of their Project Gigabit broadband contracts. At the time this was expressed as being because commercial builds by rivals would reach further than originally expected. But this overlooked the hidden gap of premises that have been left with no alternative plans.

Streetwave Neath Port Talbot Council Map of Mobile Coverage

Network analyst firm Streetwave has published the partial results from a new study, which compared real-world mobile network (4G, 5G) coverage and mobile broadband performance across the Neath Port Talbot Council (NPTC) area in Wales, which sits just next to Swansea and is home to around 145,000 people.

The relatively new broadband provider Olilo has today become the latest retail ISP to sign up to the Government’s Telecoms Consumer Charter (TCC), which was first introduced in February 2026 and follows the addition of Hyperoptic at the start of this week.

The Government’s Building Digital UK (BDUK) agency has today released their June 2026 update on the delivery progress of contracts awarded under the £5bn Project Gigabit broadband rollout scheme. The update reveals that some 271,460 contracted premises (up from 256,680 in May 2026) have so far been covered out of a planned total of 839,340 (32% complete).

A new independent research report has been published by BroadbandSwitch.uk, which provides a fairly detailed and useful overview of Britain’s move to switch-off the old analogue phone network on 31st January 2027, which was previously delayed from the original end of 2025 deadline in order to protect vulnerable consumers.

The UK Government has confirmed that a total of 140 publicly-funded rural 4G (mobile broadband) mast upgrades have now gone live across the United Kingdom (up from 100 at the end of 2025), which includes new sites in England, Wales and Scotland as part of the industry-led £1bn Shared Rural Network (SRN) project. But more are set to follow before 2027.
