Sky (Sky Broadband) has today signed an extension agreement with Netflix’s popular internet video streaming service, which we assume means that customers will continue to have the option of adding Sky’s Ultimate On Demand (UOD) service to Sky Q for an extra £12 a month (includes seamless integration of Netflix into one bill).

It’s that time of the year again when we take a look back to see how video streaming speeds by different broadband ISPs have changed for UK users of Netflix’s popular internet movie and TV service, which this year adds the impact from Vodafone’s fixed line service and oddly splits TalkTalk’s “fibre” and “DSL” connections.

Customers of broadband ISP TalkTalk gobbled less data on Christmas Day 2019 (25th Dec) than a normal Wednesday. Overall internet traffic on the provider’s network peaked at 4.107Tbps (Terabits per second) this year (3.35Tbps in 2018), which compares with 5.876Tbps on the first Wednesday of this month (3.96Tbps in 2018).

Customers of BT’s broadband and Youview (IPTV) based pay TV packages are currently being informed that the popular Universal SD and HD channels will be removed from their TV platform on the 27th January 2020. Meanwhile any recordings that users have made will follow on Sunday 23rd February 2020.

UK ISP BT has announced that they will make their BTSport TV content available via a separate flexible monthly pass, which means that customers no longer have to bundle it in with the provider’s own broadband or another service in order to receive it. However such a pass will set you back £25 per month.

Video streaming and IPTV company netgem.tv has announced that over the past 6 months they’ve been able to sign partnership agreements with 12 “Ultrafast Fibre” ISPs in the UK, which all told could enable their platform to reach over a quarter of a million UK homes.

Mobile operator and ISP Vodafone UK has a long “will they, won’t they” history when it comes to the idea of offering a TV (IPTV) service alongside their fixed home broadband and phone plans. Nevertheless they’ve now launched a new “Extra” tier that adds an Apple 4K TV (IPTV) set-top-box and a 1 year Apple TV+ subscription.

UK ISP BT has spent big on football content again for their BTSport TV service and have signed a new deal worth around £400m per year (roughly the same as they paid last time), which gives them the rights to all 420 games of the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League until 2024.

Sky (Sky Broadband) and the BBC have signed a new content and technology partnership, which among other things will today finally see the BBC’s iPlayer (IPTV) video on demand app and connected red-button service launch on their Sky Q TV platform. Previously it was possible on Sky to get BBC VoD content but not via iPlayer.

Credible sources have informed ISPreview.co.uk that BT’s retail UK broadband ISP division plans to relaunch their Pay TV (IPTV) service early next year alongside a new WiFi equipped Set-Top-Box (STB), as well as some additional content (e.g. NOW TV, Britbox and Disney+) and new service features.

Nintendo has won an injunction in the UK High Court that forces all of the largest broadband ISPs – Sky Broadband, BT, TalkTalk, Virgin Media and EE – to block four websites that were found to have facilitated copyright infringement (internet piracy) by helping to distribute video games for the company’s Switch console.
