The latest update from JT Global (Jersey Telecom) has revealed that 8,479 customers have now subscribed to the operators 1000Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband ISP network on Jersey (Channel Islands), which is up from 7,600 in March 2014.
The £41.5m Gigabit Isles project is currently rolling out to around 42,000 premises (990km of new fibre optic cable) by the end of 2016 (plus 5,000 on Guernsey), when it will replace the islands aging copper line based ADSL broadband services. So far more than 33% of JT’s customers have now been switched to the new fibre network (up from 30% last month).

But it hasn’t all be plain sailing and last month saw yet another related competition spat erupt between JT and their local rivals (here). Meanwhile local consumers are more likely to be frustrated by the operators limited usage allowances, which even on the top 1Gbps package only give you a daytime usage allowance of 100GB (unlimited off-peak) and that will set you back £59.99 per month. Credits to Thinkbroadband for spotting the update.
