BT Unveil New £5.99 FTTC Superfast Broadband, TV and Netflix Bundle

As predicted last month the consumer division of BT has today announced the launch of a new package that bundles the ISP’s BTInfinity 1 (FTTC) superfast broadband connectivity with their YouView product (TV Starter Pack) and access to Netflix all integrated into a single bill from £5.99 per month (first 6 months).

Slough-based Airwave, which in June 2014 was selected as one of eight pilot projects for the Government’s £10m Innovation Fund (part of the national Broadband Delivery UK scheme), has announced that the rural village of West Witton (Wensleydale, England) will be among the first to benefit from their new Fixed Wireless Access technology trials.

Virgin Media’s Censorship Tool Bodges UK Customers Internet Traffic

Cable operator Virgin Media has issued a brief apology after an unspecified number of their customers suffered problems accessing websites due to a fault with the ISPs Web Safe (Parental Control) service, which uses network-level filtering to block “potentially age-inappropriate websites” from the eyes of children.

The Brighton and Hove City Council in East Sussex (England) has announced that 13 of its local libraries will now be able to offer free WiFi wireless Internet access thanks to their new hotspot deployment, which was conducted alongside The Cloud (BSkyB).

Ofcom Set Late 2015 Auction for 2.3GHz and 3.4GHz Mobile Broadband Bands

The national UK telecoms regulator has today confirmed that it plans to conduct an auction of spare radio spectrum in the 2.3GHz and 3.4GHz bands during late 2015 or early 2016, which is most likely to be snapped up by mobile operators (e.g. Three UK, Vodafone, O2 and EE) for use in the delivery of 4G (LTE) based Mobile Broadband connectivity.

Wi-Manx Granted Full Telecoms Licence to Operate on the Isle of Man

Virgin Media UK Sees Growth Again to Top 4.56 Million Broadband Users

National cable operator Virgin Media (Liberty Global) has recovered from Q2’s dismal performance, when they lost -12k broadband subscribers (mostly to students that were returning home for the summer and the decline in non-cable ADSL subscribers), by adding +37,600 last quarter (Q3-2014) to total 4,561,800 customers.

Three UK Delivers the Best 3G and Vodafone the Best 4G Mobile Speeds

A new study of Mobile Broadband (3G and 4G) performance across the United Kingdom, which was conducted by consumer magazine Which? and OpenSignal, has found that Vodafone had the fastest 4G (LTE) based Internet download speeds over the past three months (13.21Mbps) and that’s somewhat better than the average fixed line ADSL home broadband connection that clocks in at 7.4Mbps.
