The Common Wholesale Platform (CWP), which is a non-profit member-owned organisation that helps alternative broadband networks to provide wholesale services to the UK ISP market, has agreed a strategic partnership with Strategic Imperatives’ new Fibre Café connectivity aggregation platform.

Hampshire-based network builder and gigabit broadband ISP toob, which is currently rolling out its own full fibre (FTTP) network across the South of England (e.g. Southampton, Camberley, Aldershot, Farnborough, Fareham and Gosport), has today separately expanded their coverage into parts of Berkshire via CityFibre’s network.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today began a review to examine whether the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) providers, which are third-party ombudsman schemes that help consumers to resolve complaints with their phone providers, broadband ISPs and mobile operators, is working effectively.

A coalition of community, conservation and outdoor recreation groups has called on the Government to review its “rushed” and “haphazard telecoms mast rollout” under the £1bn Shared Rural Network (SRN) project, which aims to extend geographic 4G (mobile broadband) coverage (aggregate) to 95% of the UK by the end of 2025.

Chris Bryant, the UK Labour Party’s Shadow Minister for the Creative Industries & Digital, has perhaps unsurprisingly indicated that – should the party be elected at the next General Election – they would honour the Government’s existing £5bn Project Gigabit broadband roll-out programme.
