The Government’s Building Digital UK (BDUK) agency has today launched a new address checker, which enables homes in England and Wales to see whether they’ll be able to benefit from the roll-out of gigabit-capable broadband networks under their publicly funded £5bn Project Gigabit programme. But at the time of writing it’s “currently unavailable due to a technical problem“.

The One Touch Switching Company (TOTSCo), which is the industry-led company responsible for delivering Ofcom’s process – One Touch Switching (OTS) – for quicker and easier UK switching (migration) between home broadband and phone providers, has today set out details of how they plan to improve the system’s performance and monitoring.

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has today revealed some of the first results from their ongoing trial of a new technology (here), which harnesses the operator’s existing fibre optic broadband network to detect mains water leaks. In just three months, it’s already pinpointed 100+ leaks and is estimated to be saving 2 million litres of water a day.

Customers of broadband provider Brsk, which is part of the Substantial Group (Netomnia) that in January 2026 decided to merge their two retail providers under a single brand – Youfibre (here), have just been notified that the migration process will begin on Monday 16th March 2026.

Consultancy firm FarrPoint has today published new independent analysis, which claims that the United Kingdom’s economy could gain a boost of more than £8.6 billion if gigabit-capable broadband connectivity was universally available to every single home and business – helping to create or sustain more than 156,000 jobs and support over 13,000 businesses.

The Independent Networks Co-operative Association (INCA) and Point Topic have today released their 2026 report into the impact of alternative “full fibre” (FTTP/B) broadband networks in the UK. The study reveals that their coverage grew by 20% in 2025 to top 19.7 million premises (up from 16.4m or 27% in 2024) and there are more than 3.5 million live connections (up by 32%).

The London Fibre Group has revealed that they’re seeking Code Powers to help them design, build, own and operate a new fibre optic network, including Dark Fibre and shared duct infrastructure, for use by other communications providers (wholesale) to expand their respective broadband and Ethernet networks across the United Kingdom.

New research from Broadband Genie, which surveyed 3,200 broadband bill payers from across the UK, claims to have found that 45% of broadband customers have experienced at least one connection outage lasting over 48 hours in the past 12 months – they’ve also calculated who pays the most for their outages by ISP, UK region and city.

AllPoints Fibre Networks (APFN), which is a Fern Trading backed wholesale platform (aquila) that aggregates connectivity from several different UK full fibre networks for UK retail providers to sell, has today announced that their partner ISPs and managed service providers (MSPs) can access CityFibre’s 1.7Gbps and 2.3Gbps speed FTTP broadband products.

Over a month has now passed since broadband and mobile providers Virgin Media and O2 (VMO2) closed their respective customer community forums to new postings as part of plans to merge and upgrade the platform (here). But the operator still doesn’t seem to know when this process will complete and won’t say what platform they’re adopting.

Network access provider Openreach (BT) are understood to be preparing a new 100Gbps capable Cablelink (Ethernet) solution to support their future 8.5Gbps speed full fibre (FTTP / XGS-PON) broadband products for UK homes. But initially any retail providers taking part in the XGS-PON pilot will need to use multiple 10G Cablelinks for capacity.
