The little known UK broadband ISP and ISP supplier,
EurISP, appears to have entered into voluntary liquidation according to details spotted by an anonymous source on the
Companies House website. It's not known how many customers the ISP has, though most will remember the provider for the Fast4/EurISP debacle last year (

The trading brand names of two UK broadband ISPs acquired by
Timico in recent months, KeConnect and Twang.net, will be changed to Timico. Timico hopes that the move will make its brand stronger and provide some key service enhancements to all of its customers (e.g. extended opening hours for the Technical Customer Service team and new online portals etc.).

BT's broadband TV (IPTV) service, BT Vision, has suspended new sales of the Setanta sports channel following concerns over the channels financial situation (could go bust). Setanta itself has also stopped taking on new users. UK ISP TalkTalk has extended its web-exclusive FREE Connection discount to new customers that signup for its Essentials Broadband and Phone (18 month contract) package via the provider’s website. Ofcoms latest '
Accessing the Internet at Home' research, which was conducted by Ipsos Mori, has revealed that three quarters of all UK homes (70% of adults) will be online by the end of the year. However 17 million Brits (30% of the adult population) remain offline and 43% of those wouldn't even be persuaded if they were offered a free broadband service and computer.

Broadband benchmarking experts at
Epitiro have revealed that the average Mobile Broadband download speed in the UK is just 0.9Mbps, which falls well short of the government’s 2Mbps universal minimum broadband speed (USO) target for 2012. The result was concluded from 1.4 million tests conducted around the UK, revealing that Mobile Broadband users typically receive just 24% of the top headline speed advertised by operators.

2009 Digital Entertainment Survey of 1,500 UK consumers conducted by
Wiggin, a media law group, has revealed that just 33% of illegal file sharing (P2P) downloader’s would stop their activity after receiving a warning letter from a broadband ISP. The figure is lower than the 70% reported in last year’s survey because the question was re-formed to ask how people would react if the letter contained "
no specific threat" of action against them.

Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), which manages the Domain Name System (DNS), has called on ISPs around the world to start moving towards adoption of Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC). DNS translates IP addresses into human readable form (e.g.
87.106.143.49 becomes
ISPreview.co.uk) but it is flawed, which can result in legitimate website addresses being diverted to malicious sites by hackers.
